East of England Baby Brain Protection Group
Welcome to the Baby Brain Protection Group webpage.
This group has been set up by staff working within the East of England Neonatal Network, who have a special interest in neonatal neurology, neuroprotection and development. There are many reasons why a baby may be at risk of brain injury or delayed development. Some risks can be reduced, through changes in practice. Although other causes, such as congenital abnormalities, will benefit from support for the family to achieve the best possible outcome for their baby.
The East of England Neonatal Network prides itself in the delivery of high quality, safe and sustainable neonatal services to our network hospitals. We work collaboratively with other networks to share in best practice initiatives.
The group is composed of medical and nursing staff and allied healthcare professionals as well as parental representation. The aim of the group is to become a recognised source of information to support the delivery of quality care to infants at risk of brain injury, through training and guidance. This will encompass clinical effectiveness, safety, patient (family) experience, efficiency, timeliness and equity.
We have 3 work streams looking at:
- Reducing injury to the brain- neuroprotection work stream
- Best practice evidence for diagnostic and prognostic tools- neuroimaging work stream
- Best practice evidence for follow-up care for those at risk or potentially at risk of neurodevelopmental delay – neurodevelopment work stream
